But not an independent rear suspension, I assume.

Fairly certain that was considered communist in 1965.

Hey the Corvair and 61- 63 Tempest would like a word with you.

As GM’s attempt to replicate the rear-engine RWD layout made popular by VW at the time, I think the Corvair would agree with me.

Well, in the ‘60s, there were only two other cars made in America that had positraction, and independent rear suspension, and enough power to make these marks. One was the Corvette, which could never be confused with the Buick Skylark. The other had the same body length, height, width, weight, wheel base, and wheel track as the ‘64 Skylark, and that was the 1963 Pontiac Tempest.*

*She does say outright that the ‘64 Skylark didn’t have positraction but nobody’s perfect.

She’s also wrong about the wheelbase, length, etc but Hollywood never has gotten hung up on facts.

But was the '64 Skylark available with positraction? (I suspect that yes, it was)

I’m sure that it was - it was available on any model in ‘65, I doubt it was new that year.  Back then, I think it was optional on most Big 3 cars, but from what I’ve seen, it’s not common, unless you’re talking about a muscle car.

Oh, and I forgot one other very notable American car from that time period with an IRS:

Pretty goddamn ‘Murican, I’d say! :)

My 65 corvair has positraction. I was surprised.

Ah, but not “enough power to make these marks” . At least according to Ms. Vito.

It’s a great movie. Despite me trying to nitpick at the facts a bit.  :)
